Why would yor feel closing State hospitals for the mentally ill should have and have been closed years ago?
How can we maintain our old and disabled citizens in a mainstream situation instead of warehousing and ill seniors in "poor" nursing homes instead of homecare.

Massachusetts Current Home Care Problems
Institutionaized(Nursing home) care is more expensive, More restrictive, and overwhelmingly less preferred by seniors as compared to care in their own homes.
Massachusetts has one of the highest levels of age 65+ per capita nursing home utilization in the country.
A 2001 report on long term care showed Medicaid institutionalization in the Commonwealth to be 65% higher than the rest of the nation.
75% of long term care tax dollars are allocated to nursing home care.
Huge savings, both in tax dollars and private expenditures could be achieved by using home care services, coupled with appropriate technlogical devices for a large proportion of seniors who can no longer take care of themselves without assistance.
